Singing in Santa Fe

I just wanted to update you on my weekend.  It seems like I have talked all the way around my weekend & still haven’t addressed the Retreat.  It was, after all, the reason that I went to Santa Fe.  hehe

It was amazing!  The women were precious!  The worship was good, the speakers (my cousin, in particular) were awesome!  God met us there & ministered to us through conferences on Living the Call that He has given us & how to love your teenagers even though they can punch your buttons.  The emphasis on missions was moving (of course, this was the Women’s Missionary Union) & challenging.  I had the honor of singing after my cousing Connie gave her testimony.  Wow!  God is using her in an amazing way.  When I grow up—I want to be her. hehe  Anyway, the anointing of the Holy Ghost was there & singing was such a treat!  It was an honor to be a part of such a wonderful meeting.  At the end about 10 women came forward & gave their lives to the Lord!!!!   Woohoo!!!!   One precious little Native American woman talked to me later & (in tears) told me how excited she was that the Lord had been pursuing her & drawing her back to him.  She rededicated her life back to the Lord that morning!!!  Her name was Abigail.  Please help me pray for her & her family.  Her daughter Yvonne is not saved & is facing health issues, & her husband Elroy needs prayer.   She was so sweet!

Thank You, Lord for loving us enough to pursue us!

I’m Tired—I Guess

I’m tired—I guess.  I thought that I was doing fine, but I have been informed that I’m not.  Several people over the course of a couple of days have felt obligated to tell me that I look tired, or bad.  I really thought that I was ok.  One precious saint decided to chide me about my weight.  She asked why I was gaining weight & while she was pretending to be shoveling food into her mouth said that it must be too much of that.

Thanks, Sis.  I didn’t realize that my weight was creeping back up — I’ll take care of that.

I really must look worse than I thought.

I really must quit eating & being awake.

I guess my Mama was the only one that taught, “If you don’t have something nice to say–don’t say anything at all.”

PS.  If I look bad in the future–don’t feel obligated to tell me.  I already know…someone has already told me.

Women’s Weekender

Well, my trip to Santa Fe is over.  I had a really good time while I was there.  I told you that I had not been there for about 15 years.  WOW!!!!!!!!  I cannot believe the difference in the “City Different”.  Actually, it has changed so much that is has morphed into the same tourist town that Aspen & other southwestern towns have.  Santa Fe is no longer quaint & unusual, it’s just another tourist town.

The houses started about 10-15 miles farther out than they did 15 years ago.  The growth is phenomenal!  The traffic at 10am on Friday morning was congested & parts of Old Pecos Trail were four lanes!  The Plaza area has changed dramatically too.  Woolworth’s drug store is gone, & in it’s place is a multi-floored galleria!  Everything is so slick & shiny!  That’s not Santa Fe!  Gone are the small shops & fun places to goof around, & in their place is Starbucks, Target, Sootheby’s Real Estate????!!!!  Now don’t get me wrong…..I love Starbucks & I love to shop.

I got the chance to drive around & reminisce.  My elementary school is almost the same.  They are adding a huge new building.  The Junior High is EXACTLY the same, but the high school had grown & they have even built another high school in town that is larger than the one I attended, & I graduated with over 800 people!

The house that I used to live in was for sale, so I got to walk around it & peek in the windows.  It is very different, but I was very excited when I got to the front porch.  My kids hand prints & foot prints were still there in the concrete!!!!!! We put them there in 1991.  Cynthia was about 3 & Ky was about 6 months old!!!! I hope the pictures turn out good!

Santa Fe

I’m going to Santa Fe!  Woohoo!  I grew up there, but when my folks moved I had no reason to go back.  So, it’s been about 10 years since I stepped foot in the “City of Faith”.  I’m looking forward to reaquainting myself with all of the places I used to go & maybe seeing a few old friends. ???

I’m going to a women’s retreat with my cousin.  It’s going to be great!  I went to one with her last year & it was awesome.  She’s a pretty amazing speaker.  She makes it look so easy.  She’s asked me to sing & I’m soooooo excited.  I’ve never had the opportunity to sing in Santa Fe & I’m kind of nervous.  I’m praying that the Lord can help me put myself aside & just worship him.  Please help me pray!

See ya  on Monday!

I Just Don’t Get It!

My son, Austin, came home from school yesterday with some disturbing news.  He said that alot of his schoolmates were complaining about the hype of 9/11!  He said that they kept asking, “What’s the big deal?  9/11 was five years ago!”

Huh?

They don’t get it!  I guess since no one they knew died it didn’t affect them

I guess since Hitler only killed people in Europe that didn’t affect them either! GRRRRR!

Joseph Roberto

It is hard to put the whole of someone’s life into a few short words, & I am at a loss as to how to memorialize a man I did not know.  From the precious few facts that I know about Mr. Roberto I can see that he was a man of character & that he lived life well.  I know that he loved his family, & that they loved him & miss him still.  We as a nation miss him, & wish to honor him & his sacrifice.  We want to celebrate the life that he lived & the man that he was.

Joseph Roberto was 37 when he died on September 11, 2001.  He was a husband & father of one child & on September 1, his wife told him that he would be a father again in May.  That his family was very important to him is evidenced by the trips to the Bronx Zoo with his son, & the way that he helped his parents decorate their house for Christmas.

Actually, Christmas was one of Mr. Roberto’s passions.  He would spend days decorating the outside of his Midland Park, NJ home & would help his parents decorate their house in New City.  He had a dozen Christmas ties & a big Santa hat.  His wife Janet told a reporter for Newsday that he loved the Christmas season because “people were always a little bit nicer at Christmas time.”

Mr. Roberto was vice president & research analyst for Keefe, Bruyette, & Woods & worked on the 89th floor of Tower Two of the World Trade Center.  He spoke to his wife & mother a few minutes before the plane hit tower one.

He was a motorcycle enthusiast, coin collector, & Civil War buff, but he will be missed most for his spirit & his love for home & family.

Joseph Roberto we will never forget!
