Summer Fun

I bought cookies & pink lemonade from kids at a roadside stand Saturday morning.

What fun!  They were the cutest kids that I had seen in a long time.  There were about 5 of them.  They were Mennonite children so they looked like kids used to a long time ago.  Clean faces, bare feet, & braided hair. A couple of them had the most beautiful red hair & freckles.   Several of the others had blonde, blonde hair.  Almost white.  Beautiful children!

They thanked me & giggled.  They were small enough that 6 cookies added up to high finance,  but we finally got a total & I paid in quarters (it makes it easier to split).  They grabbed my cookies & stuffed them in a baggie or two & I sipped & nibbled my way home with a smile.

Thank you God for kids that are still kids.

Austin Bound

I am leaving early Wednesday morning for Austin!  I'm so excited!  I've never been to Austin, so I'm really looking forward to it.

The reason that we are going to Austin is because Cynthia has been chosen by The Texas Assoc of Secondary School Principals as one of the top 20 students in the state!

Woohoo!  This is big!  I'm thoroughly vindicated for the time that her kindergarten teacher blew me off  & thought that I was too proud of my kid to understand…….ha!

This is going to be quite a trip.  Cynthia has expressed her desire to drive, & I'm going to let her.  GULP!  She needs the experience & I've got a good book!  She's going to take me to Papadeaux.  It's a Cajun restaurant!  OOOOH  sounds great!   I'm planning on visiting the capitol.  I grew up in New Mexico so I don't know much Texas history, & I'm looking forward to learning something.

Living for Today!

I have been derelict in my duties….I have allowed life to crowd in and make me too busy to blog!  EEEEEEEK!

No, I worked a temporary job for a couple of weeks, then spent the next 3 weeks trying to catch up at my "real" job.  We own our own business, & when you couple that with kids, school, parents, & laundry that makes for alot of craziness!  Whew!  I'm glad that graduation is over.  It was an exciting time, but emotionally very draining.

Cynthia, my oldest, gave an amazing speech at graduation.  Have I mentioned that she was the Valedictorian?  It is hard to believe that I failed to mention that before — since I have been telling strangers in the grocery store about my "genius child".  ANYWAY……..

In her speech she talked about the graduating class & how they have been told that they are the hope for tomorrow.  She said that she disagreed with that…that they were the hope for today.  She admonished them to live in the moment.  To not always look forward to what they were going to do, but to do something now–IN THIS MOMENT.

She closed with this quote from John Wesley:

"Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can."

Well, I was convicted.  How often I have dreamt of the future & not taken care of today.

She has taught me so much.  Thank you God for this moment!
